Vegas was a challenge. I was determined to conquer it. I must have called 30 places in attempt to volunteer. We want to help! It came down to the kids and liability. In my mind I just keep thinking I'll sign a waiver (as I have so many times before) but that didn't work. Finally, we found The Ronald McDonald House of Las Vegas and we were so thankful.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is an incredible organization that keeps 'families with sick children close to each other and the care and resources they need'. More often than not it seems that when a child falls ill the kids are taken to a children's hospital far from their home where they can get the special care they require. The families are often left sleeping next to their child's hospital bed for days and weeks while they navigate through all of the ups and downs of diagnoses, treatment plans and more. This is where RMHC steps in. They allow families to stay in the house (and it's a beautiful one) to focus solely on their child's care and have a comfortable place to rest their weary heads. The families can bring everyone (siblings and the whole gang!) and they are able to rest without the worry of grocery shopping, cooking and the expense of hotel bills. The families have access to a great staff, to daily home-cooked meals and resources that the RMHC staff can help them get connected to.
All that being said, we were thrilled to help.
So... without further ado meet THE COOKIE CREW! We got to bake in a kitchen as big as our RV. We traded in hair nets for aprons and made all sorts of treats for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House. We baked caramel sea salt brownies, a cinnamon streusel cake, cookies and cream cookies and oatmeal raisin cookies. YUM!

Hurry up! |
We cut up and put all the goodies in tupperware and the brownies went to pieces so this sign was necessary. :) |

It was a GREAT way to volunteer with our family. Be sure to check out The Ronald McDonald House and see if there is one in your area. There are all sorts of ways to get involved. Groups can come in to make dinner for the families staying in the house and more! Dinner for a large group was a bit out of our range and well COOKIE CREW is right up our alley. The awesome staff at the house keep some of the goodies at the house and some go to the family room at the hospital where the kids are being treated.
We can only hope we put a smile on someone's face that day.
It is amazing how important the love and help you guys are offering. I was offered to stay in a place like this for baby's girl birth. Luckily we weren't so far and it was still better to come home every so often. I can still remember how good it was to have the positive energy of the volunteers around. You guys rock!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol. Miss you guys! Give the kids big hugs and kisses from us!
