Paige was in Page

It's not often you go to a place that has your namesake (they just spell it wrong).

We went, we saw and we conquered and all in one day. Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend were unexpected wonders. I'd never even heard of these places before we started this adventure. That's the cool part about researching everywhere we go, following other travelers on instagram and really just delving into a place to learn its ins and outs. It's exciting!

Luckily these two places were only about 10 minutes from each other. SCORE!

Antelope Canyon

It was first on our agenda in Page and it took us a bit over 2 hours to get there. We woke up at the crack of dawn and headed out still groggy. We got to Antelope Canyon early and went on the first tour of the day. It was quite honestly the coolest nature-made sight I've ever seen. I hope the images below can give you even a glimpse of what it was like.

Waiting for our tour and running around with her big bros
It helped that our tour guide was incredible. I mean earning his tips like a CHAMP. He changed settings on our phones and on our big camera, took family shots and even played a Native American flute at times. He also offered to carry our kids if need be! I told you-- above and beyond.

At one point he showed us a dragon in the canyon. The sand/wind had carved it like that and it was a total aha moment for us. Cayenne had been asking for a pink dragon for the longest time. Random, we know but that's literally what she'd been asking for from Santa and still asked for it after the fat man didn't deliver. Well, there ya' go baby! We told her "you manifested a dragon, little one!" and she was overjoyed and quite honestly proud of herself. There was one moment I wish I could relive as the tour concluded and I was ascending out of the canyon into the sunlight and the guide played the flute-- it was enlightening. It felt like the sun radiated on my cold face and I was rising up to the warmth and the glow of life. WOW- it was just a beautiful moment (even with a 30lb toddler on me). Be sure to look at all the images below.

Little Miss is used to being my backpack at times, but the tour guides suggest that you wear them on the front so they don't get their heads bumped accidentally. She was so cozy on me and I loved it!

Waiting at the entrance. It's hard to believe that all that beauty is underground and behind R. Can you see the cracks behind him?

We are going down into the canyon!

Walking through this most beautiful sight!

The dragon (I think). It was a lot easier to see it in person. Can you see it? The face with the open mouth-- it's on the left side of the picture.

Here is that moment I mentioned-- the sun was SO bright!

Horseshoe Bend

Our kids walked a lot in the slot canyon so the complaining started as soon as we stepped out of the car. How far is it? How much further? You know how it goes. Luckily it seems like you are walking quite a ways and then there it is. This jaw-dropping DROP and ummm, there was no railing. Every time one of my clumsy kids got even 5 feet from the edge I cringed. Talk about nerve-wracking. I do wish we could go back at other times during the day and I totally would if we'd had more time. It would be amazing to see how the sun hits the Bend at different times of day. Again, pictures can hardly do it justice as it is just so grandios. Enjoy!

It looks like the middle of nowhere, but there must have been hundreds of people there!
Making our way to Horseshoe Bend

AND BA-BAM... there it was!

Bye for now!

  2. I think you must see Bryce and Zion National Parks. Bryce is very different (the hoodoos), and Zion is just plain beautiful. But there are lots of things you'll probably see that I haven't. Want to be there!
