LACMA

We met a family in Tucson that was from LA. One of her few suggestions was to go to LACMA. We were thrilled when we found out it was free to all kids under age 18 that had a "pass". Each kid also got one adult in free. This was one of the few times having 3 kids has benefitted us financially. I'm just speaking the truth here people.

All we had to was go to the art area during business hours, fill out a short form and the kids got us a pass in the door. SCORE!

We explored the grounds and went inside to a few of the more kid-friendly exhibits. Niko and Reno are of age that I can trust them in a museum where you aren't allowed to touch anything. Cayenne on the other hand.... UMMM NO! We decided to take it easy and we know it's important to keep an eye on the EXIT doors in case we need to bolt.

First up, was Urban Light. It consists of 202 restored street lamps right off the streets of LA from the 1920s and 1930s. You know, right around the time Edson and I were born. Just kidding, but really our kids have been saying that we were born in the 1900s and that just sounds OLD.

Reno found what he thought was a diamond on the ground. This was the investigation.
This is the Levitated Mass by Michael Heizer. We obviously had fun with it and the kids ran back and forth quite a few times.

Here are a few more of the indoor exhibits that we enjoyed. Imagine how hard it is for a 2 year old (not to mention her older brothers) to restrain herself from touching what looked like a giant sandcastle!!

This is Metropolis II: it's a huge model of a modern day city complete with moving cars, trains, buses. It is incredible to see all it's inner-workings.

This 'tree' was made of cassette tapes and VHS tapes
Urban Light all lit up. So pretty!
We really enjoyed LACMA and went a couple times while in LA. On to the next!

  1. I hate to say it, but those street lights (the 2nd row in the 3rd picture) look exactly like the ones we had in front of our house in MI when I was a kid. Talk about feelin' old!
